Brrrr!

This weather change is like a breath of fresh air. I'll tell you what cold is...which brings me back to my days in New York. Getting ready for work in the morning wearing a warm wool sweater, wool ribbed tights, boots, fur lined gloves, a fashionable hat which made a statement and the full length mink coat my beautiful Mother passed down to me. Waiting for a taxi cab on 57th and 5th with the wind ...hitting me in the face, my nose running uncontrollably, my toes starting to feel numb and not being able to hail a cab because I can't feel my fingers so I give up and hop on the next bus that comes along and save ten bucks. The good news is right there as I get off the bus is my favorite pretzel stand. Grab a pretzel with a dab of mustard and eat it on the way back to my apartment. I walk in the door, turn up the heat and take a nice warm bubble bath. I heat up the Chinese food from the day before, turn on the TV to see whats happening in the world and anxiously await a new episode of Knots Landing. Go to bed with Johnny Carson and seven hours later wake up to a snow storm..can't get to work. I spend the day at home catching up on my favorite soaps, drink hot chocolate and whipped cream ( I know I'll work it off at the gym) and snuggle on the couch with my cats Mushi and Tushy. I'm getting antsy so I walk to the newstand when I suddenly get splashed with cold wet slush by a car turning the corner. I rush back to my warm cozy apartment, throw off my clothes, put on my flannels, crawl into bed hoping that I'll open my eyes to a beautiful sunny sky.
So now here i am twenty years later living in the most beautiful state In the USA and in the last 24 hours we've experience a cold spell and it's not so bad. In fact it's refreshing and rejuvenating! My advice to all of you native Californians who are hemming and hawing about the cold is lighten up, enjoy it while you can, nturn up the heat, throw on a scarf and some leggings, take your dog out for a fun, drink hot chocolate with your kids, feel the cold against your face and breathe. It's great for the soul!

Valentine's Day Advice

I'm Alone On Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is here and you're freaking out because you have no one to spend it with? It's not the end of the world if you don't have a date for Valentine's Day do something nice for yourself. Go to the market and buy yourself chocolate covered strawberries or treat yourself to a massage. This is your day to be good to yourself. Strike up a conversation with the person who strikes your fancy at your favorite coffee shop. Tell them that you like their smile. There's nothing like making someone feel good about themself. You might spend the following weekend with this person.

What's An Exciting Thing to Do On Valentine's Day?

Valentine's Day is very overrated. Restaurants charge triple, and the pressure to please your partner could either kill you or make you broke. Not everyone can afford to by the Tiffany bracelet. Be spontaneous, and unpredictable by doing something your partner least expects. If you have kids have them build a fort in your family room (You know it was made with love) order a pizza, open a bottle of wine and watch a romantic movie with your honey. Yes, alot of women love flowers and candy but we're all running to the gym to stay in shape...are we really going to eat the candy?
Roses are nice but very predictable. Be creative and mysterious which can be very sexy. If you keep the spice in the relationship you'll never be bored.
Happy Valentine's Day!

ANOTHER BIRTHDAY COME AND GONE By Lisa Conrad Cohen

It’s been exactly thirteen days and nine hours since I turned another year older and as I sit and reflect on the events of my life I have to say it’s been quite a journey. I have only a few regrets, some of which are not sleeping with a handful of men who might have been really great in bed! Another regret is not traveling to Europe when I had the chance to go in my twenties. I went to Rome and Florence in my forties pregnant with my second child and walked up the Spanish Steps every night. I missed out on the wonderful Italian wines but made up for it by eating three gelatos a day. And the only other regret I have is not grabbing opportunities as they were presented to me. The things I could have achieved were endless. Grab those opportunities as they come to you. So now here I am doing things I never expected to be doing. I have a wonderful man, two amazing daughters, six handsome and very smart stepsons, a lovely home, two adorable dogs, an amazing group of friends, I can still fit into my size 6 jeans, no hot flashes yet, enjoy sex more than ever, appeared on a TV show, wrote articles that have been published, have a growing business, have done numerous radio shows, haven’t done botox…yet, having a ball every Friday at AFL with the most talented actors, writing my book... OY VEY…I’m exhausted and it’s GREAT!!! I love my life and I wouldn’t change a thing. So on that note believe in yourself, keep a positive attitude, love yourself, follow your dreams, if you try and fail, at least you know you tried. It will make you stronger and wiser. Wisdom goes a long way. Here’s to Life!!
